HSV-2 cause cold sores, but not genital herpes?
Is it possible to have HSV-2 but not genital herpes? I got blood work pay for today saying that HSV 2 came rear postive, but I have never had an outbreak. I hold had cold sores before, but HSV 1 come back negative on my blood check. I have been beside the same guy for 5 years. Apparently this is the first time I have be tested by blood for HSV, which makes me irate because everytime I go within for my annual I tell them to test me for EVERYTHING. Apparently most doctors won't exam for HSV unless you have an outbreak?? Does the positive HSV 2 mean that I manifestly have HSV 2 and that I can give someone genital herpes, or could the HSV 2 of late be causing cold sores? I'm so confused!

His final assessment was that I definitely enjoy HSV-2 but that its oral and if I were to get another cold sore to hold it swabbed. He acted like it wasn't a big deal and i should shift on living my life - no need for any suppressant medication. I can't remember asking if I needed to take any special precautions with my girlfriend (but need i could).
In the end, I was a touch unsure of what to think and I asked him for a referral to a specialist since i'd like a second feelings, He gave me the name of someone he call a "guru" of herpes in Houston that was supposedly involved within the trials associated with Valtrex and used to work with the virus lab contained by Galveston where they keep some really obnoxious stuff. I'm dying to talk to the guy but can't see him until 12/8.
I'd really like to hear the opinion of other doctors around the country, esp those that specialize in STD's.
